Having a website can help your organization on multiple levels, from connecting with potential donors to educating the public about your services.
Many of the nonprofit organizations that email us include a link to their websites. What we've noticed over the years is that a lot of the websites either don't exist or are incomplete. Sometimes the websites have not been updated in what looks like years, while in the more extreme cases, the organization has reserved a domain name (i.e., a web address) but then failed to create the website. In still other cases, the domain name exists, the website is there, and the information is reasonably up to date, but it's difficult to navigate the site or the images used on the website are low resolution and appear blurry.
Creating a website does take some effort. You have to think about what you want your website to accomplish, who your intended audience is and what they need, and the mood or spirit that you want your site to project. You also have to collect materials (text and images) and write new content. On top of that, you have to learn how to build a website or hire someone to build it for you.
Some of the challenges listed above cannot be entirely eliminated—there's no way to get around writing content for your site—however, there are ways to make creating a website easier and less expensive. The main way to do so is by using a website builder. Website builders are platforms that do the coding behind the scenes for you, so all you need to do is upload your content and format it like you would a document in Google Docs.
